The DC resistance of a tinsel conductor shall be measured and the construction of the tinsel conductor as well as the DC resistance shall be placed on the facing page.  The DC Resistance value shall be placed on the tag, reel or carton markings by the manufacturer.

8.4, Table 8.2

AWM styles with a nylon covering will need to be reviewed for compliance with the new requirement. If testing to the Flexibility at Room Temperature After Aging Test in the Standard for Thermoplastic-Insulated Wires and Cables, UL 83 or the Flexing Test of Nylon Jacket on Types TFN and TFFN in the Standard for Fixture Wire, UL 66 has not been conducted on representative samples, testing will be required. 

8.4

AWM styles that contain an extruded covering as the outermost layer will need to be reviewed for compliance with the new requirement. If this covering has not been evaluated as a jacket, testing will be required.

13.3.3 (new)

Styles with a use statement of ‘external interconnection’ that have a jacket thickness less than specified in Tables 13.1 – 13.3 will need to be evaluated to the requirements in 13.3.3.  Styles such as 1965 are effected by this requirement

18.1

Copper and copper clad conductors shall be subjected to the copper corrosion test or they shall not be deemed suitable for use.  All styles rated 200C or less which typically use copper or copper clad conductors will be subject to this requirement.

19.1 and Table 19.1

Fluoropolymers rated less than 125C shall be subjected to the deformation test. Styles such as 10051 will be subjected to this requirement. The requirements for deformation of FRPE, nylon, THV and TPU are now defined. Styles using these materials will need to be subjected to the deformation test.

26.1

Most AWM styles are not required to be surface printed.  However, if a wire is surface printed, it must meet the durability of ink-print test.  For those styles such as 3239 that are required to be surface printed, verification that the surface print test was performed will be required, or the test will need to be performed.

The requirements for fluoropolymers with a wet rating were not defined.  New requirements have been proposed and accepted. Previously established styles such as 10033 may be affected.  These styles will need to be reviewed for compliance with the new requirements

All manufacturers using a conductor material other than minimum 97% IACS copper or 61% IACS aluminum must mark the conductor material on the tag, reel or carton.

Table 7.1

Tensile and Elongation requirements for EPDM rated 125C and FRPE rated 90C have been published.  Styles such as 4345 (EPDM) and 10507 (FRPE) will need to be evaluated to determine that the materials used comply with these requirements.

Jacket thicknesses for cables used for external interconnection have been defined.  Jackets used on cables must meet these specifications unless the cable has been subjected to a crush test.

Deformation test temperature requirements are now published for all materials.  Any material not previously tested for deformation will need be submitted for evaluation

Test temperature for the Durability of print test has been reduced.  This supercedes the previous revision noted above

37.1 and 37.2

The test temperature for wires with a 90C or 100C wet temperature has been defined.  Wires with this rating will need to be evaluated to confirm that the correct test temperature was used.
